Universal Sport Club Management System
Lion Tour
The case study is almost ready, but still being worked on. Don't worry! In the meantime, you can check out the web version. It's ready! :)
I had the privilege of working with an aspiring entrepreneur on his startup venture, leading the end-to-end design direction of the web and tablet experience. The service is focused on developing an advanced amateur sports club management system. Our collaboration resulted in the creation of Lion Tour, a minimum viable product (MVP). This MVP was submitted to a European Sports Startup Accelerator Program in September 2023, and while the response is pending, the process is ongoing.
LionTour aims to seamlessly integrate a high-performance and adaptable platform for organizing and overseeing sports competitions of all levels and structures. It offers a comprehensive suite of tools specifically designed to efficiently manage amateur sports clubs.
Introduction
Amateur sports clubs around the world face the challenge of providing a comprehensive set of services such as training, competitions, player rankings, online courses, etc. Due to limited budgets, these clubs are unable to develop their own digital solutions to include all of these services.
Trainings are typically scheduled using social networks, competitions are organized using Excel spreadsheets or paper, player rankings are published on social media, and club websites often have limited functionality.
Holding competitions usually requires a lot of calculations which need to be done on the field as quickly as possible. Since these clubs typically have their own rules rather than following federation guidelines, it is often impossible to use OOTB tools to manage competitions.
Lack of Digital Solutions for Amateur Sport Clubs
Sports clubs need an all-in-one solution to deliver the next level of service and experience to their members. They need to be able to schedule and conduct leagues, tournaments, trainings and events, track player statistics and rankings, and create customizable tournaments and sports events.
Problem Statement
Create an affordable solution that simplifies club management processes, reduces financial overhead, and provides comprehensive services to amateur sports clubs.
Develop a cost-effective digital platform
Automate scheduling, standings, and calculations to replace manual processes. Design a flexible system that accommodates amateur clubs' unique rules and structures with easy setup, real-time updates, and quick in-game calculations.
Streamline competition organization
Create an easy-to-use, intuitive platform that is accessible on various devices, making it easy for club administrators, coaches, and members to engage regardless of technical expertise.
Improve accessibility and usability
Enable effective interaction between club members, coaches, and administrators through features that facilitate feedback, guidance, and updates within the amateur sports club ecosystem.
Enhance collaboration and communication
Solution
Research
During the research for the development of the digital platform, I considered performing the following activities:
Stakeholder interviews: During stakeholder interviews, I learned about their pain points and challenges in managing clubs, organizing competitions, and communicating. I also identified their requirements and preferences for the digital platform, considered technology and accessibility, and discussed their expectations and goals.

Industry research: Conducting an analysis of the current market helped to identify existing solutions, their features, pricing models, user feedback, and any gaps in the market that our platform can address.

Competitive Analysis: I analyzed the features, functionalities and user experience of existing sports club management platforms and competing products in other domains, what will set the platform apart and how it can provide unique value to the target audience.
Overall, this helped me gain insight into the needs, preferences and challenges of the target users. This enabled me to develop a digital platform that effectively addresses their needs and delivers value to amateur sports clubs.
Competitors
After analyzing the market, it was found that existing systems lacked the flexibility needed to effectively organize tournaments and events.

Platforms like SportEasy, Toornament, and Rankedin provided some functionalities but lacked the complete set of features needed for managing amateur sports clubs. This market gap led to the initiation of the LionTour project. Competition analysis showed that SportEasy focused primarily on team sports, Toornament focused on online games, and RankedIn, although a good product overall, lacked many desired features.
A detailed feature table for each service can be found on the next page.
Moving forward, the next step in our project is to identify the key features that are already in the MVP and the future roadmap, define the direction and focus of our initiative to meet the needs and expectations of our audience.
